Fall is for sure my favorite season. I know, pretty basic. But, I just love fall baking. This easy vegan gluten free apple crisp is so good. A good gluten free apple crisp is something everyone needs in their life. This fall season I have been craving them like crazy. A warm, gluten free fruit dessert with some dairy free vanilla ice cream (SO delicious is my fave) is the perfect thing to enjoy on a cool fall evening.
This recipe is something that took a couple of tries, but I finally perfected it. This Apple Crisp is both gluten free and dairy free and absolutely delicious. It is also super easy; I was able to make it on my lunch break one day when I was working from home.
How to make the easy gluten free apple crisp:
First, you will want to peel your apples. I use a potato peeler to do this. It is the easiest way for me to peel fruit! Next, you will want to slice your apples into very thin slices. This is critical because the thinner the slice the more even it bakes. I accidentally sliced mine too thick one time, mainly because I was feeling lazy, but the apples came out still crunchy. Which if that is your thing then great, but I enjoy my apples being soft when I bake them. Now, put your apples in a bowl with some water, turbinado sugar, and arrowroot powder (or cornstarch). This makes the apple crisp filling more like an apple pie instead of a watery mess. Set them aside.
Next you will want to get out your food processor and add in the oats, almond flour, sugar, pecans, maple syrup, and spices. Chop slightly, then add in the cold butter and chop slightly again. Do not over chop, you still want some chunks of butter to be incorporated throughout the topping. Take out your dish, I use this Le Creuset , and grease with vegan butter. Pour in your apples and then cover with the topping. Cut up some slices of vegan butter again for the top and then bake! It is so delicious!
I hope that you all enjoy this apple crisp as much as I have. Looking for another fall favorite dessert? Try out my bourbon pecan pie!
